Multifunction Copier
Here are some things to consider when shopping for some of the multifunction copiers on the market today. Why choose a multifunction copier? If space is at a premium in your office or you just can’t see spending the money on 4 separate units when one multifunction unit can do it all then a multifunction copier, scanner, printer and fax might be your best choice.
Because printers share similar technology and parts with copiers, faxes and scanners, the all-in-one can cleverly power-up your tool set while saving money and space. A combination of other capabilities to augment your printer is good, but the downside is you might have to compromise to get it all. This will be a generalist machine, not an expert in any one task. In addition, functions most likely cannot be upgraded independently.
For personal and home-office use, though, the extra capabilities of the multifunction printer can give an unexpected boost to your productivity. Once you have an idea of the print quality, speed, and resolution you want in a printer, look for an all-in-one with the other functions that suit your needs.
The multifunction printer interface with your computer is an issue to note because of the different machines included in the system. Be aware that parallel ports are most common but there is a move toward ubiquitous USB port. Also, you’ll need to buy the correct cable to connect to your computer because it won’t come with the printer. If your multifunction printer will be shared, you can also look for a network option.
